In 2012, Second Step�: A Violence Prevention Curriculum (2002 edition) received a final program rating of Effective based on a review of a studies by Frey and colleagues (2005); Schick and Cierpka (2005); and Holsen, Smith, and Frey (2008). In 2020, a re-review of the studies by Frey and colleagues (2005) and Schick and Cierpka (2005), using the updated CrimeSolutions Program Scoring Instrument, resulted in a new program rating of No Effects. Programs rated No Effects have strong evidence indicating that they had no effects when implemented with fidelity. This version of the Second Step Program is no longer active. In 2011, the Committee for Children developed and released the fourth edition of the Second Step program, which includes revised content and materials to enhance student success in school, and offers new content related to teaching students skills for learning such as aspects related to self-regulation (Low et al. 2015). A revised version of the 2002 edition of the Second Step program is also included on CrimeSolutions.
